Elder Wellness Week was started in 2010 by Mary Katherine Smith, an herbalist with years of experience caring for the elders of the land. Since then, Mary Katherine and the Stone Cabin Collective have held almost two dozen week-long holistic free clinics at senior centers and community gathering spaces on Dinétah, in the Big Mountain/Black Mesa area. Clinics are relaxing, festive social times where you can soak your feet, drink some tea, get a massage, acupuncture or energy work, and return home with herbs to last through the season.
The Stone Cabin Collective is a group of volunteer herbalists, massage providers, energy workers and supporters from all over the continent. We help organize Elder Wellness Week in support of the Diné (Navajo) people of Black Mesa as they continue to resist massive coal and uranium mining operations and water extraction, and for those affected by the forced relocation policies of the US government. Elder Wellness Week is named to honor the elders especially, but all ages are welcome!
